its a way of creating the illusion of smothing but by using less colours, I've put an image in my journal as an example

no doubt, but I just notice a lack of dithering done by these fancy people, I'm guessing its down to images not having the colour restrictions they used to.

I don't, mainly because I can never make it look any good with the fewer colours.
